What is Disney Bounding?

As fans of the Disney parks know, Disney bounding, or Disneybounding, is a way of getting into the spirit of a character by copying their style without actually dressing up as the character. It’s fashioning yourself in a way that you represent the character or other Disney phenomenon, like their snacks! It is a form of cos play.

When you, Disney bound, you can really get into the spirit of the Happiest Place on Earth and enjoy the parks fully. It’s an amazing feeling when you totally submerse yourself into Disney! So I would add Disney bounding is a way of setting the mood for your parks day. I know this helps me as the person who always made the plans for everyone in their group. I set the mood in my mind to have fun and enjoy every minute instead of having my nose caught in the park maps.

It is important to note what Disney bounding is not as well as what it is. It is not dressing up as a character. Disney has strict rules against dressing up as a character. You may not do it unless you were under the age of 14

Therefore, Disney bounding is not dressing in character, as much as representing a character in the way that you dress and style yourself. So while you may not wear a mermaid tail, you could always wear a skirt with mermaid scales on it. See the difference?

The term Disney bounding was created by a blogger in 2011. Her name was Leslie Kay and she would share the outfits that she would make to represent Disney characters on the day she was going to the parks. Now her blog is on Insta and she continues to do so.

Can you dress like Disney characters anytime and call it Disney Bounding?

Well, in life, we could really do anything we want right? I see if you want to dress like a Disney character every day of your life and it makes you feel good, go for it! But the term bound does mean you’re on your way to get there and you’ll be there at a park so calling your dress up session, Disneybounding when you’re not actually going bounding? That’s a little bit of. Blurring the lines, but you can call it Disney dreaming! Which is pretty much a daily event at my house.
